Results NI Altador Cup Survey 2023

Today is the official signup day for the Altador Cup, in a couple of hours you’ll be able to pledge allegiance to your favourite team. If you’re looking for some inspiration on which team to join here are the results of our survey. 155 people participated.

Based on the survey responses, this year seems to be promising. Unlike last year we’ve added the option for people who weren’t participating last year and this has given us a clear insight into the Altador Cup. Turns out that a lot of people are new to the Altador Cup or haven’t participated in a while.

At the very end of this article you’ll find the option to download the anonymous data from the responses in a CSV file. I am very certain that someone with far better Google sheets or Excel skills can get even far more interesting data out of this survey.

Question 1: Which team will you be joining this year?

This year Haunted Woods seems to be the most popular choice compared to last year’s Darigan Citadel. With 27 votes Haunted Woods hold a 3 point lead to runner up Darigan Citadel’s 24 votes. The two spooky teams are followed at a distance by Shenkuu (16), Krawk Island (15) and Maruqua (14).

Next on we have some of the teams in the middle like Faerieland which compared to last year’s 17 players now only has 7 players committing. Meanwhile Lost Desert, Altador and Kreludor are making moderate gains.

Lost Desert leads the mid-tier teams with an increase from last year’s 4 players to 9 this year. Altador and Kreludor see their players rise from 1 to 5 and 4 respectively.

At the bottom (of the survey, not the lake) we find Kiko Lake this year, whereas last year this spot was reserved for Tyrannia which now has 3 player commitments.

Question 2: Which team did you join last year?

Last year we didn’t include an option for ‘Not Present’ which in hindsight was a huge mistake but this year we do have that data. It turns out that of the 155 survey participants a whopping 71 did not play last year.

Most of the new participants went to Haunted Woods, followed by Shenkuu, Maraqua and Darigan Citadel. So as you can see Haunted Woods is mostly made up of new participants, whereas runner up Darigan Citadel maintains a far larger loyal core with less of an influx of new players.

Question 3: How loyal are you to your team?

As for loyalty, a majority of 58.7% of the participants appears to be loyal to their team. Meanwhile 33.5% doesn’t really care about which team they join as long as the community is fun. Meanwhile there are 6 people (3.9%) who switched recently and 6 people who are really fed up with their teams performance in the past. Which is interesting to see, does it really matter if your team wins? For those 6 people apparently it does.

So which team is the most loyal? Not surprisingly it is Darigan Citadel, which you can see in the table below the chart. What is surprising though is that Haunted Woods has a diehard supporter base as well, one which is higher than the amount of people you have if you extract the newcomers. So one can conclude that even some of the new (or returning after hiatus) are diehards for the team.

It’s also fun to see that each team has at least 1 diehard supporter, even the team that is usually the butt of every joke: Kiko Lake.

Question 4: Which team do you predict will win this year?

Lastly we’ve got the predictions for the winners of the cup this year. With Darigan Citadel being the most popular prediction with 45 votes. Followed by Krawk Island (21 votes) and Haunted Woods (16 votes). Check out the table below the chart for more predictions.
