Neopets Pride News: New NP Pride wearables and dev looks into adding non-binary as option for your Neopets account.

Great Pride News, today TNT announced the release of Neopets Pride wearables and all of them are non-NC items meaning you don’t have to spend actual real life cash to get pride gear which is amazing news.
The pride gear consists out of the Pride Progress Flag, the Trans Flag and the Non-binary flag. In total there are 6 new pride items up for sale at the Mysterious Background store and the Ugga Shinies store. From what is known these items should be permanent and not just limited so you’ll be able to get your hands on pride items anytime.
Some people weren’t happy about missing their representation as there is of course much more to queer people than just trans people and non-binary people but I think this is a great step forward and I don’t see why TNT won’t come out with more items like an asexual flag, a bisexual flag or any other orientation flag.
In other Pride News, today Neopets Developer Dingo hopped on the Altador Cup chat in which they answered some questions about cheater groups and they also mentioned looking into the 20-year old code of Neopets to see if allowing for the non-binary option in an account would break the site or not.
This doesn’t mean it will be implemented anytime soon as the code behind Neopets is quite ancient and fragile. But it is nice that devs do know about this and are willing to look into it.
Yeah this is the biggest issue. Myself and the other NBs have suggested a compromise in which you could at least have like a “presented” gender, that maybe only appears on the petlookup/userlookup and doesn’t affect things like paintbrush colors or anything, but it seems like even that might be more work than it sounds like
I think I just need to do all of the digging into the code myself and lay out a step by step plan for the implementation and I think that would help with deciding whether the scope of work is too great. But please just know that there is not anyone on the team who is against the idea of adding more gender options, it’s not like the corporate overlords are stopping us, it’s literally just the pain of working with 20 year old code
So yeah, that’s great news coming from both the official TNT news page and from staffers themselves. We’re rooting for TNT and hoping they can fix this amongst other things.
